This is definitely something I should be covering in the media center with the upper elementary students. It could easily be integrated with research skills and evaluation of resources. The problem is finding a good instructional lab space for all of those classes :)
I have included the URL of a website from Germany on "the perils" of GMOs. Students who have the know-how to find foreign resources can get a clearer understanding of how people in other countries feel about issues we, in the U.S., are also dealing with. http://www.oekologischer-aerztebund.de/htm/09-04-24.pdf I think students should lean about the URL and what the parts of the URL mean so that they can better utilize the Internet. Lots of discussion could be generated by looking at other's (from other countries) viewpoints.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Corrie, this is an area that should be taught in upper elementary and junior high for future use.
