I think it is good for students to know that there are different search engines out there for them to use. Some offer features that the others do not. I liked the fact that in Yahoo, as you type in the word you are searching for, various options associated with that word show up in the drop down menu. Not all search engines do that. Siting another example, Dogpile makes it convenient to look up phone numbers for people and businesses (and aerial views of where they are located, I discovered). Students also will find a search engine that they prefer to use.
At the 4th grade level, the students are really getting into research for the first time. We usually introduce them to google first.
