What could you do with a tool like this in your classroom that you could never have done before? How might your students use this tool in your classroom?
As mentioned in your Screencast, students could use these tools to communicate in various ways with students in other countries. Websites and comments could be translated back and forth to allow students to talk with each other. A teacher could even partner with another school and do peer-teaching of a language--our kids teach English, their kids teach Spanish/French/Swedish, etc.
These tools could be used in the library to aid in research. A student could find valuable primary sources in native languages and translate them to English.
Google Translate could be used with an students in the classroom that speak a language other than English. It would have been fun to communicate with some of my Spanish speaking students using this tool. We could probably use this to open up communication between the ESL and English speaking students. Another use of this technology would be to have students work in some way with a person, organization, etc. in a foreign country. That would really be interesting!

This tool would be useful to translate notes to our ESL parent population.
ReplyDeleteIt would be neat to use as a pen pal activity with students from different countries!
